24
August 21, 2017

Well, as I ease over to a 40-pound loss, I can also say that for the first time in a very long while, I am able to wear a size 24. I went to Penneys yesterday, and bought two bras, three pair of pants, and two blouses. All the clothes were Alfred Dunner, because they didn't have any of less-expensive Penneys Worthington brand pants in my length. They fit otherwise, but I'm not saving anything if I have to pay to have them shortened. Not that the Dunners were expensive--they were only $22.95, and I was able to get them in 24/short, and in black, navy, and a medium grey.

The two tops are actually the same style, which I am often guilty of when I find something I like that fits well and happens to be marked down on top of it. Quite girly, actually. I like them because they manage to be my usual no-nonsense cut, but a bit frilly and floral at the same time. And only $17.99 apiece. One is very pastel pink with a bit of blue, and the other is in a more forceful black and tan, so they don't look EXACTLY alike.

And on top of all that, last night I checked my email and found a promo code for another 30% off online purchases, so I ordered a pair of the Worthington pants in Slate Grey Heather, size 24 Short--and ended up getting them for $18.93, with shipping. I'm hoping they will be short enough and fit okay.

One thing that irked me is that after standing in line for quite a while to check out, I ended up having to get right back in line because the girl rang it all up wrong--charging me for four pairs of pants and only one blouse. Got it sorted, though. I just wish that once, I could go clothes shopping and not end up sweating like a pig. Ugh.

Over all, it was a pretty busy weekend for me. On Friday after work I had a lunch to go to, and then when I got home, we didn't do much. I actually napped for a couple hours--first time in a long time. Spouse made a great pot roast dinner, and we took B out for a ride in the car, because he enjoys it so much.
On Saturday, I got up early and got some laundry started, becasue we had decided on a whim to run down to Elmwood Park for Russell's Barbecue. We stopped off at the cemetery and paid respects to Spouse's dad's side of the family, and had a nice lunch at Russell's, then went over to Jerry's Produce, the legendary grocery store on Milwaukee Ave. Scored a lot of great produce and meat for ridiculously low prices. Then we headed back to Kenosha to do our main shopping. Slim pickings if you go after 1:00 pm, though--the stores were out of a lot of stuff. We did the best we could, and then went home.

After we put everything away, we closed up, turned on the air, and cooled off a bit. I chunked up the huge, delicious muskmelon I'd gotten at Jerry's, then took a long and vigorous swim in the late afternoon, while Spouse took a bit of a snooze. Since we ate a big lunch, we pretty much grazed for supper. I had a big bowl of the melon, among other things. Oh, was it ever good. After eating, I worked some more at the laundry and fiddled around on the computer.
Sunday, we did our usual Sunday morning routine--a nice breakfast (eggs, sausage, toast, and homefries) followed by housework and laundry, and me taking a brief moment to geek out and tend to my pens. Then we got cleaned up so I could go clothes shopping as covered above. After I got done at Penneys (Spouse found a comfy chair outside the fitting rooms, appointed himself "Keeper of the Handbag", and planted himself for the duration), we stopped at the Kwik Trip and Aldi before heading back home. In the afternoon, I finally made Spouse that batch of Rice Krispy Treats he's been wanting, then made a rasberry cobbler for myself out of some of the 50-cents-a-carton red raspberries I got at Jerry's. Then I made the salads for dinner before I went for another swim workout, while Spouse made BBQ chicken legs for dinner.

Spouse went to bed early, since he was kind of achy. Those pain pills knock him out, I guess. I did my usual Sunday night prep for Monday/the week ahead, and then I hit the rack about 9:00 and read till ten. I saw that Jerry Lewis and Dick Gregory died--TBH, I couldn't have sworn to their being alive prior to the news. Neither of those names has been relevant in a while, have they?
Slept okay last night--not great, not terrible. Felt achy myself this morning, since I had swum so hard over the weekend. But it was an okay day at work. Some shit to deal with, since I was the only one there, but the fact that my co-workers were out and my boss is on vacation? Kind of made up for it.

The great eclipse was a dud here--heavy cloud cover stole its thunder. Not something I was particularly interested in, anyway, but so typical of our climate to let everybody down that way, (Seriously--this is one of those times where I end up being really glad I didn't get invested in a thing. Detachment and disaffection frequently pay off.)

Reading: 'Hildegarde's Holiday' (1891), by Laura E. Richards

Listening: Echo & the Bunnymen, The Cure, Siouxsie and The Banshees, The Mighty Lemon Drops, Simple Minds.

Inked Up: One small change. Still the Bexley 10th Anniversary with custom italic nib, but loaded with J. Herbin Orange Indien. (Disappointing ink. Even after sucking it out of the cartridges and putting it into a sample vial, then loading into my favorite firehose pen, it is still dry and pale and I don't like it.)
Plus the Levenger Facets medium nib, with Seitz-Kreuznach Plum Blue, and Conklin Duragraph fine nib, Pelikan 4001 Brilliant Brown
