Mem Day weekend
May 27, 2014, 7:01 A.M.

We stuck close to the house this weekend, not counting many trips to Menards, Lowes, Ace, and Steins for DIY supplies. Worked in the backyard on Saturday and Sunday, mowing, weeding, cutting up and junking the old yard swing and grill, putting in edging, weed barrier and mulch for my new contemplation garden, hanging flower baskets and windchimes and my little dalmation-in-a-tire-swing folk art piece, installing solar lights, setting up the patio set, placing flowerpot gardens and dcor items in the new garden area. And I added more stuff to my garden on Monday after a ; a potted cherry tomato plant, and the birdhouse planter Daddy made for me years ago, with another flowerpot garden in it.

The weather was perfect on Saturday and Sunday, but it got hot and muggy on Monday, and a couple of storms rolled through during the late afternoon/early evening.

In addition to all of the outdoors work, I did all the regular laundry, plus I changed the beds and washed up multiple loads of bedding, did some re-arranging in the basement, some basic housecleaning, and some mending, on the indoors side.

Saturday breakfast was a bagel and coffee at Panera, and we had steaks, bakers and sweet corn--all off the grill--on Saturday night. Sunday, Spouse made eggs, hash browns, sausage and toast for breakfast, and for dinner he did smoked ribs and baked beans on the grill, which we had along with coleslaw and potato salad. Both meals were fantastic, with the fact that we were starved adding an extra layer of flavor! Monday, we didn't get too involved with cooking--I baked a pan of good old "poppin-fresh" cinnamon rolls for breakfast, and we just made tuna salad sandwiches for an easy supper. But we did make a batch of lime paletas!

Sam's Club had a big bag of limes for 6 bucks last week, and that is the cheapest I've seen them in months, so we bought one--and then had to figure out how to use all those limes! Even with the ice pops, though, I still ended up sharing some with a co-worker who is a lime freak. Even Sam's price was too high to go wasting them.

In other news, my SIL had her cancer surgery on Friday, and apparently she came through with flying colors. They got it all, and her prognosis is very good.
Spouse has one more week on regular days, then they move him to a mid-shift for a couple of weeks to transition to second shift. That will be a pain, because he will be working from 10:00 am to 6:30 pm. At least it will be temporary!
B continues to do well in his "Thundershirt". He still has a tendency to go hide, or to stick close to us, but he is nowhere near as panicky as he was before.
Fun Fact: This week marks 20 years since we moved into our house. 2 decades as a homeowner. Biggest mistake of my life.

Reading: Still working my way through the same stack of books. Been too busy getting stuff done, and too exhausted from getting stuff done, to do too much reading!
