quick cuts to catch up
March 29, 2010

I did succeed in getting my glasses fixedbut only after two tries. I stopped after work the other night and the receptionist/optician straightened them for me, but then I went home and the right lens popped out & fell into the rice jar as I was getting dinner. So I bipped back over to the office while Spouse took over dinner, and this time, Dr. B did the fixing himself. They are more or less straight now, but I can see that they will never be quite right again. Oh, well-I am due for a new pair, anyway.

They're starting with the CONFORM OR DIE bullshit at work again. Now they want everyone to lose weight, per the Big Cheese. Must be nice to be a CEOif you get to be a little porky and decide to go on a diet; well misery loves company, and you can put the whole company on a diet with you! It's good to be the king, eh?

And whether this is connected, I do not know, but they changed cafeteria management companies at work. As horrible as the old one was, I do not think I care too much for the new one. Far fewer selections, stingy portions, hardly any posted prices (and the ones I saw were a lot higher than I can afford in my lunch budget), and a ridiculous layout wherein you have to wander all over the place for flatware, condiments, and even different sizes of sandwich. Plus, the soup I had was yuck. Lots of meat, but I ate a whole bowl and still don't know whether that was supposed to be chicken or turkey. And if soup is supposed to have noodles, I expect my bowl to have more than three of them.
Went over to W&T's for a Game Night on Friday, and that was lots of fun. We talked and ate pizza and drank soda and played Chutes & Ladders using My Little Ponies for board markers, and generally acted like six-year-olds, which did us all a world of good. We also played a very hilarious, pun-laden game called "Lord of the Fries", which was also a blast.
It took my altruistic side to get me back into some light beadingI'm doing a couple of bracelets to donate to a friend's breast cancer fundraiser. I actually finished one yesterday.

I sort of have a design for another worked out, but I havent started it yet. No time tonight, since I have a six o'clock appt. for my six-month dental checkup. (And an oil change tomorrow night. And a hair appointment Wednesday night. God, I hate weeks like this.)
Had a bit of a Spring fling at the outlet mall on Saturday. Spouse (he's so sweet) invited my parents to go to Easter Brunch with us (we are joining P&E at the Polish Center, as usual.) AND THEY ACTUALLY ACCEPTED! YAY! But--
this put the heat on me to get my mom's birthday present taken care of, since her birthday is this Wednesday, and I'll be seeing her on Sunday. So a trip to the outlet mall was clearly indicated, right? So we drove out to PP and I went to the Fossil Outlet and got her a very nice jewelry roll for traveling.

And got myself a new pink Fossil logo bag, as well as a lovely new watchstainless steel, barrel-shaped face with a gradient pink shading, and a crystal that is faceted to create a subtle starburst effect. (I'd link to photos, but by the time this stuff is in the outlet, it's off the website.)

And then I went to the Ghirardelli outlet. And bought absolutely nothing for myself! I picked up some little Easter gift baskets for my mom and sister-in-law, plus one for my youngest nephew, who is joining us all for Easter. And some Milk-Chocolate Caramel Ghirardelli Squares for Spouse. But not a thing for me.

Nopemy porntastic, orgiastic shopping experience came afterwhen I went into the LeCreuset outlet. I didn't buy much, but ooh, did my eyes pop and my tongue hang out. I got a pair of the stoneware French onion soup crocks, blue because that was on sale. I had wanted the individual casseroles, but Spouse talked me into the crocks, since they are more versatile, cheaper, and weve been looking for decent ones for the last five years.
I've decided I need to go to the doctor. I've got thisthing. A painful, itchy thing, and in a most awkward and personal location. I'm way overdue for a checkup anyway, and my eczema is out of control, so I need to quit futzing around and call for an appointment. Not looking forward to it, though. Why is it that my springtimes are always fraught with complications?

Reading: "Grace Harlowe's Overland Riders in the Great North Woods", by Jessie Graham Flower (c.1921). The last of my Grace Harlowe books, and since this last series is so very different in tone to the previous books, I have to say Im not sorry to finish up. Never been a fan of shoot-'em-up action stories. Especially when they present no characterization (other than a few ethnic stereotypes), and the plot is the merest tissue-thin vehicle for taking the Overland Riders from fight to fight. Also reading "Magnificent Obsession", by Lloyd Douglas (1929), which is interesting, since Ive seen the 35 and 54 films and can compare the original to them.
