weekend? what's that?
January 26, 2009

Worked overtime on Friday, but got home in time to see Spouse off to work. Then took a two-hour nap, and spent the rest of the evening staring into space like a zombie.

Worked overtime on Saturday, came home, Spouse and I headed out to do the weekly shopping, and then I came home, put it all away, and tried to relax for a few hours.

We went to the local animal shelters Spay-Ghetti Dinner for supper. It was okaythe food was kind of ick, but then Im pretty picky about my pasta and sauce. And we were there more because it was a good cause than for the food. It was very successful, apparentlywhen we got there at six, the place was mobbed, and one of the organizers said they had only expected to serve about five hundred people between four and eight, but they had already gone trough six hundred, and it was only about half over.

They had silent auctions and vendors set up as well, and we talked to a couple of places about putting B through a basic obedience class, and I got a pet first-aid kit for five bucks (great deal).

Sunday was technically my one day off this week, but what woman ever really gets a day off? Here is how I idled away my downtime:

  • Got up and cooked a hot breakfasteggs, sausage, toast, juice, and coffeefor Spouse
  • He did the breakfast dishes, but I scoured the kitchen sink and took out the trash, as he doesnt consider those part of doing the dishes.
  • Took on our impossibly fucked up fridge, which is so poorly designed that it has to be defrosted twice a year, despite the fact that it is frost-free. This meant turning it off, taking everything out of the freezer, and thawing it out with a heating pad and pans of hot water, then disassembling the interior parts and scraping out the accumulated ice.
  • While the top was thawing, I cleaned out the bottom, throwing away all the forgotten leftovers and past-due sour cream and nasty things growing in the produce bins
  • Finished the defrosting, re-assembled and re-stocked the freezer and cleaned up the mess.
  • Took out the trash two more times.
  • Baked a batch of sugar cookies.
  • Cleaned up the baking mess and washed the dishes.
  • Washed, dried, and put away four loads of laundry.
  • Dis-assembled, cleaned, and re-assembled the vacuum cleaner.
  • Fielded a culinary challenge from Spousehe requested a big batch of meatball stewwith lots of leftovers that he could get through the week on. Having never made such a thing before, I took my best shot. This meant making a batch of three dozen meatballs, peeling and chopping the vegetables, and coming up with a sauce.
  • Did the dishes and cleaned up the kitchen again after dinner.
  • Watched Big Love and The U.S. of Tara.
  • Set up the coffee and laid out my clothes for Monday morning.

  • Yepa nice, easy, relaxing day off.

Reading: Didnt read anything for pleasure all weekend, actually. Just too busy.

Surfing: Are you kidding? Did you see that list up there?!

Listening: The Best of Elvis Costello and the Attractions
