new knee
June 11, 2008

He will have to have a new knee.

Per the surgeon, his knee was much worse than expected, including a free-floating hunk of broken-off arthritic deposits moving around in there and causing damage.

The verdict? IF we can get a significant amount of weight off of him, his knee could possibly last him another two years of so.

Not a very good best-case scenario, and dog knows, I dont live in a best-case kind of world.

I worked my ass-end off on Monday, so that I could take him for surgery yesterday. I spent 5 hours at the hospital. Another hour at the pharmacy*. Brought him home, fed him, fetched and carried for him, elevated the knee, iced it, went to the library for him, fed him again, washed dishes, took out the garbage, cleaned up the dog poop, waited on him some more, and breathed a huge sigh of relief when he went to bed at eight.

Its going to be a very long week. I cant begin to contemplate what it will be like when they do the replacement.

* Seriously, WalgreensWHAT the fuck? Busiest pharmacy in town, and you cant keep the pill machine, the label printer, or the registers working properly? And on top of that, they waited till they had FINALLY filled the scrip, and then realized they didnt have any of his info on filedespite the fact that hes been using the same pharmacy for 16 years, and his info hasnt changed in at least 3 years. I had to go back to the beginning of the process and start over, and then they threw a fit because he wasnt there to do it himself. Yeahhe just came out of surgery, and hes going to deal with this shit. Not to mention the fact that I AM THE INSURED, and 175 times more qualified to answer their questions. Seethis is why I switched to CVS. And after sitting in the PT for a very long, post-surgical hour yesterday, waiting for me to get this taken care of, hes finally decided that hes switching, too.
