GYM REPORT:

38 minutes

2.01 miles

266 calories

Since I had the opportunity for a Friday Workout, I figured why not make it a really good one?

Spouse had to do a West Coast Turnaround, working last night and going back in this morning. This way, the crew gets tonight, Saturday, and Sunday off for the holiday. That's hard on an old fart like him, but he said he doesn't mind.

I took advantage and went to the gym after work, with good result. Walked off this shitty, shitty week.

We have no plans for the weekend--I think we both just need to rest again. This cold is trying its best to kick my ass, but my ass is refusing to be kicked.

Still, it slows you down a bit. And he had it a lot worse than me, so he needs some recovery time.

I'll probably bake a ham Sunday, but that's the sum total of festivity.

IN THE NEWS:
Shareholders signed off Thursday on Kmart Holdings $12.3 billion acquisition of Sears, Roebuck and Co., clearing the way for the two struggling rivals to combine into the third biggest US retailer.

Actor Tom Sizemore has been sentenced to 17 months in prison and four months in a drug rehabilitation facility for failing drug tests while on probation.

Legendary chess-player and all-around WHACKJOB Bobby Fischer is out of detention in Japan, and taking up residency in Iceland. And still talking the same old trash.

Authorities are reviewing security measures at the Racine County Jail after three prisoners were accused of removing concrete blocks from a cell over a period of weeks. Then, they put the blocks back in place with look-alike mortar made of toothpaste, toilet paper and butter. A criminal complaint said they also used wool blankets to sew clothes. "So they would have something so it wouldn't look like they were in jail orange. That's a pretty distinct color. Even in the middle of the night, you would notice someone in an orange jumpsuit going down the street, particularly law enforcement. So yeah, they were working pretty hard. They had given some thought to their efforts," Racine County District Attorney Mike Nieskes said. Authorities were tipped off by another jail inmate.

Reading: "Uncommon Knowledge", by Judy Lewis.

I read this autobiography when it came out in 1994, but it is a fascinating book, and worth a re-read. Judy Lewis is the illegitimate daughter of Clark Gable and Loretta Young, who was "adopted" by and raised by Young.

Listening: XM Satellite Radio, "70's on 7".

Song Sample For Today is another triple play: Cher,"Half-Breed", Helen Reddy, "Leave Me Alone (Ruby Red Dress)", and Melanie, "Brand New Key"

Beading: Nothing at the moment, but I'll probably work on something this weekend.

recede - proceed
