random rant
October 17, 2014

random rant Everything I was raised to believe has gone by the wayside in this country, and the values instilled in me by my parents are meaningless in today's world. No one is valued for their loyalty, dedication, and high ethical standards. The reward for hard work is nothing but more hard work. Corporate America has reduced their workforce to chattel. One only has to look at the changes in terminology to see that--over the course of my career, I've gone from being "PERSONel", to "human RESOURCES", to "people EQUITY". We are numbers on a balance sheet, with no value or existence outside of what can be bled off to enrich the company. People don't start a business because they believe they have something to offer..."equity firms" invest because they think there's a quick buck to be made, and if they suck all the life out of a company or an industry in the process, the vampires abandon the corpse for the government to clean up, and go looking for the next neck into which they can sink their teeth.

EVERYTHING is numbers on a balance sheet. Even academia is a numbers game. Everything is sordid and base and ugly, and I am so busy running as hard as I can just to stay in one place...and failing. They change the rules and strip away benefit after benefit, and I just can't run fast enough to keep up.

Nothing will ever get better, or even stay the same. Life swirls the drain until we're eventually sucked into the sewer.

Existence is meaningless, and most human beings are incapable of understanding that. Which means that even if it were theoretically possible to change that fact, there aren't enough of us to pull it off.

recede - proceed
