Election results made me slightly less unhappy and stressed--presidentially, we managed to beat back the Republican Agenda of Pure Evil for a bit longer. Senatorially, we elected the state's first female senator--and the first openly gay member the senate has ever had. (Interesting behavior for a state that, only a few years ago, voted to write anti-gay discrimination into our state constitution.)

Not all gravy, though. That festering pile of fetid fecal matter gets another two years to call himself "my" (shudder) congressman. And the RAPEists have a stranglehold on state government, controlling the governor's mansions and the entire legislature, giving them free rein to ride roughshod over us all.

And there is the fact that voting against the RAPEists is effectively voting against my own job--Obama's naive and misguided attempt to fix what is broken by breaking what isn't (i.e. trying to make HEALTHCARE affordable by completely effing up INSURANCE) could very easily put me out of business in the near future. Pretty sad when it comes down to having to choose between being able to support yourself, and being able to OWN yourself. And in case any of us missed the finer points of this, my department got treated to an hour and a half of meeting time taken up with details of the iminent staff reductions by our VP, and a lecture on exactly how grim the future looks by our legal department.

Sigh. Politics. Can I at least have my TV back now? Is the endless political hate and vitriol of the past three years gonna STFU for half an hour so I can watch friggin' Jeopardy? (Seriously. That crap has been clogging up the airwaves here in WI from early 2010 to late 2012, and we are all so damned sick of it we want to die.)

Other stuff--the dog seems to be coming out on the other side of his horriffic skin & coat issues. (Did I mention that his fur started falling out and all his outer layer of skin shed in one massively messy 3-week nightmare?) After the vet told us it was just a minor, treatable side effect of the thyroid medicine--which looks way worse than it actually is--we were much relieved.

We've changed his food to Iams Sensitive Naturals, which is designed specifically for such skin issues (high in Omega-3s, no chicken, corn, wheat, or soy), put him on an additional Omega-3 supplement, started giving him Zyrtec twice a day, and given him medicated baths. We even started vacuuming him! That was interesting--The B has always regarded the vacuum as the enemy, but as soom as he figured out that it was a grooming tool, he embraced it enthusiastically. He's such a metrosexual pooch.

It all seems to be paying off--in less than two weeks, he has improved to the point where you can hardly notice there is even an issue.
And then there is Mom. I don't feel terribly comfortable talking about her illness, because--well--it's HER illness. But things are not looking good at the moment. That could change, but a lot depends on her, and I don't think she can be aggressive enough with these doctors, which will count against her. She has too much respect for them--and I am talking "thinks they are all god", here--and my dad is morbidly afraid of incurring medical bills, to the point where I fear for his good judgement in all this. SO. Pretty much still overwhelmingly depressed and run down. Not anxious--I believe anxiety is for people who have uncertainty about their situation and the future. I happen to know that A) life sucks, and B) it can absolutely only get worse, not better. So no anxiety!
Oh, and I found out Fashion Bug is closing down, and The Civil Wars are breaking up. Well, shit.

Reading: The Outdoor Girls on Rainbow Lake (1913) by Laura Lee Hope...because I can't seem to read anything unfamiliar at the moment. Need stuff I've read at least once before. It's a stress reaction thing.

Listening: WXRT playing stuff from1976: Aerosmith, Dylan, Southside Johnny & the Asbury Jukes, Steely Dan, The Eagles, and...The Spinners with the immortal "Rubberband Man"
