reaping the whirlwind
October 16, 2009

After nearly a decade and a half of the wretched mess known as reality TV, isnt it time to say enough already? So many of these people are, at best, pathetic attention whores. They are rarely nice people, it seems. And sometimes, they are thoroughly reprehensible. Why do people feel the need to watch this crapto emulate itto subject their kids to it? Ive been baffled and nauseated by this crap since the mid-nineties, and lately, it seems all these queer chickens are coming home to roost. The prospect of easy bucks and reality TV stardom draws flakes and crooks. And if they havent messed up their lives before they get their 15 minutes, they certainly do after. Damn, I wish this crap-a-palooza would just stop.

Why the diatribe? well, here you go--three actual headlines from today:
TLC Suing Jon Gosselin for breach of contract
Balloon Boy: We did this for a show
Survivor star Hatch ends federal tax sentence
Here are some other recent headlines:
Megan Wants a Millionaire star Ryan Jenkins wanted for murder of ex-wife
Former reality show contestant pleads not guilty in slaying of adult film actress
FBI linked Anna Nicole Smith to hit plot involving husband's son
Real Housewives NJ stars sordid past included prositution, kidnapping, and cocaine

Pretty obvious, isnt it?

Reading:The Unexpected Mrs. Pollifax , by Dorothy Gilman. I read this about 35 years ago, and remember liking it, so I got a few Mrs. Pollifax stories from the library and Im going to give the old girl a whirl.

Surfing: Mysticism, metaphysics, money-grubbers, and morons: In an AP report of a conference call held by Ray regarding the incident, a woman identified as Barb told the callers that a channeler at the retreat last Friday said the deceased had an out-of-body experience during the sweat lodge ceremony and "were having so much fun that they chose not to come back." Tom McFeeley, cousin of Kirby Brown, who died in the incident, also listened to the call and provided the transcript to the AP. He said, "We find it offensive that anyone would classify their death as a choice. We don't believe she chose to suffocate in a sweat lodge. We don't think she chose to fast for 36 hours without food or water and then have improper nutritional care. She did not choose to have improper medical care on site." McFeeley said the comments on the call solidify his belief that Ray is controlling the people involved in his self-help program.
