Why do people have to be so disrespectful and mean?

Because, if a person has expressly requested and made it perfectly fucking clear that she does not want any notice taken of her birthday, to the point of taking that date, and the days before and after, as vacation�that should be respected.

And if her co-workers go ahead and surprise her (5 days early!!) by A) having a food day, B) presenting a card, and C) decorating her cubicle?

Then those ostensible kindnesses are, in fact, disrespectful and mean.
