Monday report
July 17, 2017

Friday, worked in the morning, got my haircut and eyebrows waxed in the afternoon, then we ran errands. Came home, balanced the pool chemistry--it was way off due to the 9 1/4 inches of rain we got last week. And caught up the laundry and did a few other chores around the house. Spouse made a nice dinner in the pressure cooker, using some carrots, boneless beef ribs, and a bottle of Korean Bulgogi sauce, and serving over basmati rice. It was really delicious.

We decided to have an outing on Saturday. Can't really afford to do anything too extravagant, but we took the Metra train down to Wilmette and visited the small French Market they have in the station parking lot on Saturday mornings.

We found loads of goodies, but made an effort not to over-buy and let anything go to waste. (Plus, we had to haul it back on the train, so another reason to keep it small.) We got sweet corn, yellow squash, zucchini, green peppers, new potatoes, scallions, fresh garlic, green beans, tomatoes, cucumbers, a cottage loaf, butter cookies from St. Roger Abbey, and a special treat for me--BLACK raspberries! (I grew up with my grandma's black raspberries and it spoiled me for life.)

After finishing at the market, we walked around downtown Wilmette a little, and had some cider and a nice lunch at a local pub, then just hung out by the station until time for the return train. Since we were coming out of Kenosha, there were only a few trains back, so we had to catch the one leaving at 1:04 or wait till 5:00.

Once we got back to town and collected the car from the commuter lot, we ran over to the grocery store for a couple of things, and headed home.

Dinner was cold sandwiches, since we had quite a filling lunch in Wilmette, and we just kicked back in the evening.
On Sunday, I woke up feeling kind of icky; didn't sleep well. We skipped our usual Sunday breakfast, and Spouse did housework in the morning while I put in some time on my project--cataloging the photos from the trip. Big job, that! Then we got cleaned up and ran the last few errands of the weekend. When that was finished, I worked on the pictures some more and Spouse puttered around, doing little odds & ends. He pre-cooked the bacon for dinner, among other things. We had BLTs and corn for dinner, using the tomatoes sweet corn we got on Saturday. Very tasty!

It was quite beautiful all weekend, but too cool and breezy for swimming; the wind was off the lake and kept temperatures in the 60s. It is supposed to warm up this week, so there's hope. I made some homemade paletas in anticipation: a "citrus cooler" flavor, with lemon, lime, and grapefruit juices in them.
