I see absolutely no reason to commemorate a minor, regional victory in a
19th century battle between Mexico and France. One sparked, I might
add, by the fact that Mexico refused to pay their debts, and France
thought that was a good excuse for an imperialistic land grab.
As an American, if I was going to pay tribute to a battle in Puebla, Mexico,
it would make far more sense to celebrate "Uno de Mayo", in recognition
of American forces marching west into Mexico’s interior, winning a bloody
fight against Santa Ana’s forces in the approaches to Puebla, and capturing
the second largest city in Mexico on May 1, 1847.
That is, it would if celebrating war MADE ANY GODDAMN SENSE AT
ALL.
