good things--for a change
May 22, 2014

I still retain my capacity to amaze myself: I made myself the most fantastic glass of fresh-brewed, blackberry-ginger iced tea this morning. Mind-blowingly good. And from ingredients I happened to have at my desk.

A plain tea bag, a crumbled up piece of crystallized ginger, a spoonful of my morning blackberries (crushed up), and one sugar cube to bring out the fruitiness. Hot water, 5 minutes, pour over ice and WOW!!!!
(And yes, I keep candied ginger in my desk. LOVE that stuff!) Got embrace those small pleasures in life. Like taking a detour with my window down on this morning's commute, just so I could savor a large bank of lilacs in bloom.

The unexpected serendipity of stopping by the hair salon yesterday after work, to book an appointment--and finding my stylist free to take me right away.

The astonishingly beautiful transformation of my mundane suburban office park, when all the flowering trees are in bloom.

Having my bestie actually make the move to invite me over, instead of me always and forever having to be the one to initiate all the contact. This is very positive for her, too--she has social anxiety and it takes a lot of conscious effort on her part to do it.

Carl Reiner and Mel Brooks. Two of the funniest and most awesome people to roam the earth. Absolute treasures. And forward-thinkers, who embrace the twitterverse and share all kinds of goodies with us all on a near-daily basis. I follow two nonagenarians on Twitter (Carl Reiner @carlreiner and Monica Lewis @songbirdmonica), and they consistently make me feel priveliged to do so.

There. A positive post. Just so it's clear that I don't spend ALL my time complaining!

Reading: I have been picking up and putting down so many books lately, I don't even know where I am. I am currently dipping into Carl Reiners I Remember Me, Red and Black, by Grace S. Richmond, James Hiltons Random Harvest, and even a couple of Mrs. Molesworths books! (Four Winds Farm and The Tapestry Room). Spazzy much? I swear, no new starts until I finish at least TWO of these!

Listening: The Lumineers, Green Day, Coldplay, Of Monsters and Men, and The Smiths ("Happy" 55th Birthday, Morrisey!).
